Greenhill Primary School is a community primary school, catering for children from 4 to 11 years. The school buildings contain discrete EYFS, KS1 andjKS2 areas linked by a corridor; a large hall; administration offices and a school meals’ kitchen.
The hall is equipped for PE, contains a small library and is frequently used for school concerts, special services or occasions, displays and morning assemblies, to which parents may be invited to share in the varied school activities.
The school is well resourced with computing equipment, a range of practical equipment for science, mathematics, music and PE activities and published resources to support language, mathematics, history and geography work. We also have a wide range of reading material to support the teaching of reading and our home/school reading policy.
The children have access to three main play areas. The sports’ field is often used as a general play area during dry summer weather as well as for official games lessons and sporting fixtures. In addition there are fitness trails and play equipment that enhance the children’s play environment alongside a suitable range of planned activities.
Adult supervision is vigilant but friendly, with teachers on duty at playtimes and midday assistants and play leaders at lunchtime. The older children are encouraged to assist staff and foster the atmosphere of caring, friendliness and helpfulness, particularly to the younger children. The very young admissions are restricted to the infant playground until they become familiar with the older children and they learn school routines and expectations.
The school site also contains gardens and lawns and the children are encouraged to respect the school grounds and the environment by controlling litter and helping with the gardening and grounds development. The school has a number of wildlife areas around the school site. These conservation areas are developing with support from parents, school, neighbours and voluntary organisations and offer excellent educational opportunities for our pupils.
