The Pupil Premium is an allocation of additional funding provided to schools to support specific groups of children who are vulnerable to possible underachievement. There are numerous reasons that children may fall into this category and therefore be entitled to this extra funding:
- if they are on Free School Meals or have been at any point in the last 6 years
- if they are Children Looked After (CLA – in the care of the Local Authority)
- if they have previously been a Child Looked After and are now adopted from care or are under a Special Guardianship Order or a Child Arrangements Order or a Residence Order
- if they have a parent in the military or has been in the military over the past 5 years or are in receipt of a child pension from the Ministry of Defence
Schools are free to decide how to allocate this funding to best support the raising of attainment for these children. For further details click the link to read the Pupil Premium Policy 2017.
